HTTPS Hosting Done Right.

Our HTTPS hosting feature allows you to secure your website traffic by having SSL certificates such as free Let’s Encrypt certificates installed on your domains and subdomains.

This allows your websites to be accessible via TLS/SSL, which causes a padlock icon to be shown in your visitors’ web browsers.

For a full list of the benefits of HTTPS hosting, check out our article that reveals the 5 Important Benefits of Installing SSL on All of Your Websites.

SSL Certificates

An SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate is a digital item that’s purchased or obtained from a Certificate Authority (CA) for a domain. It can then be installed on that domain’s web server in order to secure its traffic.

You may purchase or obtain an SSL certificate by contacting us via the Client Lounge or via any reputable SSL provider. Either way, HostM will take care of installing the SSL certificate for you at no additional charge.

We offer 100% FREE SSL certificates from Let’s Encrypt, so that you can secure all of your websites hosted in your HostM account, whether they’re business, personal or non-commercial sites.

We also provide discounted prices starting at $19.98/yr for GeoTrust RapidSSL certificates. GeoTrust is a trusted global brand in web security and is owned by Symantec, a well-known security outfit that acquired Verisign’s SSL division and develops the Norton Security suite of products.

Both the GeoTrust RapidSSL and Let’s Encrypt SSL certificates can utilize 4096-bit private keys and feature full SHA-2 support and 256-bit encryption, the same level of security used by reputable banks and large ecommerce storefronts.

We typically have each SSL certificate installed within several hours of purchase or request. We also take care of renewals for the free SSL certificates from Let’s Encrypt on your behalf.

Unlimited HTTPS Hosting

Our unlimited HTTPS hosting setup allows you to secure as many domains and subdomains as you wish on your hosting account.

Previously, each SSL certificate required its own dedicated IP. Since every domain on a hosting account shares the same IP address, and each domain typically requires its own SSL certificate, this meant that in each hosting account, only a single domain or subdomain could be secured by an SSL certificate!

Thankfully, your HostM account comes with a feature called Server Name Indication (SNI). This allows all modern web browsers to load your SSL-secured websites without the need for a dedicated IP.

This means that you can, if desired, have SSL certificates installed on any or all of the domains and subdomains hosted in your HostM account, allowing them to take advantage of the SSL hosting benefits listed above.

Note that wildcard subdomains are not currently supported by Let’s Encrypt, but individual subdomains are supported. GeoTrust RapidSSL supports wildcard subdomains at a higher cost than its regular certificates. The rates are listed on our web hosting specifications page.

Let’s Encrypt currently allows for up to 20 SSL certificate requests per domain (including any of its subdomains) within a 7-day period, but each SSL certificate can cover up to 100 entries, including the domain itself, its subdomains, and their respective www. counterparts.

HTTPS Hosting Features

Our HTTPS hosting comes with the following features and specifications:

  • HTTP/2 Hosting boosts the performance of your websites using next-generation web technology.
  • Server Name Indication (SNI) allows you to have multiple SSL certificates installed on your HostM hosting account, so that you can secure as many of your hosted domains as you wish.
  • Strict Transport Security (HSTS) ensures that modern web browsers know to connect via HTTPS right off the bat, without first trying HTTP and then redirecting to HTTPS.
  • Perfect Forward Secrecy (PFS) prevents past encrypted communications from being retrieved and decrypted should a long-term secret key be comprommised in the future.
  • OCSP Stapling speeds up the verification of certificate validity by allowing HostM’s web servers to bundle the certificate vendor’s signed timestamp with the SSL certificate.
