How to Use G Suite for Your Domain’s Email

When you add your domain name to your HostM hosting account, the default configuration is such that email hosting is handled by our servers.

If, instead, you’d like to use G Suite (the premium/paid version of Gmail) for your domain’s email, you can use the following steps to do so:

  1. Make sure that you’ve already added the domain to your HostM hosting account.

  2. If you have not already done so, sign up for G Suite for your domain on their website.

  3. Sign in to your hosting account’s cPanel.

  4. Under the Domains heading, click Zone Editor.

  5. Next to the domain you wish to modify, click Manage.

  6. Just below the search box, click MX.

  7. To the right of the search box, click the down arrow in the blue button that says Add Record (be sure to click the down arrow, not the text itself), then select Add MX Record.

  8. Enter the following details:

    • Priority: 1
      Destination: ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM

  9. Click the Add Record button to the right.

  10. Now use the same method outlined in steps 7 through 9 to add the following additional MX records:

    • Priority: 5
      Destination: ALT1.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM

    • Priority: 5
      Destination: ALT2.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM

    • Priority: 10
      Destination: ALT3.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM

    • Priority: 10
      Destination: ALT4.ASPMX.L.GOOGLE.COM

  11. Now delete any MX records whose value in the Name column is your domain name, but whose Destination does not contain within it.

  12. Just below the search box, click TXT.

  13. Now look for a record whose value in the Name column is your domain name, and whose Record begins with v=spf1.

  14. To the right of that record, click the Edit button.

  15. In the Record field, right after the v=spf1, and without deleting anything, insert

    Ensure that there is a space character both before and after the

  16. Click the Save Record button to the right.

  17. Click the HostM logo in the upper-left corner of your cPanel to go back to the main page.

  18. Under the Email heading, click Email Routing.

  19. Select your domain from the drop-down menu.

  20. Select Remote Mail Exchanger, then click the Change button.

Your domain name is now pointing at G Suite for email purposes. Please note that it may take up to several hours for your changes to be recognized by ISPs worldwide, including your internet connection provider.
