Here's a quick step-by-step guide for switching from another web hosting
provider smoothly, with zero downtime.
1. You must already own the domain
name you wish to host. If it is a new domain and you want to register
it, you may do so during the account opening
process, from just $10.99/year; or you may use your preferred domain
registrar.
2. Instructions on how to upload your web site and set up email
addresses for your domain name, can be found within the welcome email
sent to
you immediately upon sign-up. Follow those instructions to get your
web site
and email set up properly.
3. Login to the registrar's web site where
you manage your domain name, and change the DNS for that domain name
to:
ns1.hostm.net
ns2.hostm.net
ns3.hostm.net
4. 24-48 hours after you've made the DNS change, your
domain name will have automatically propagated to your HostM.com
account and all incoming
email and web site visitors will be arriving via your new account.
There should be zero downtime during the switch.
For a new domain name, please note that it will only begin
working 24-48 hours after registration -- this is normal.
5.
We recommend waiting about a week or so after the DNS change
before cancelling your old hosting account, to allow time
for smaller ISPs
to update their cache.
