Just as we pre-install other web languages such as PHP, Python and Perl, we also pre-install LiveCode Community Server (or LiveCode Server if you’ve purchased it from LiveCode Ltd) on our servers and keep it up-to-date.

This means you get to focus on developing your web apps rather than waste valuable time testing, installing, updating, and troubleshooting LiveCode Server itself. All you need to do is upload your .lc LiveCode scripts and run them.

Unlike most hosting providers, we are LiveCode hosting experts and use LiveCode for our own projects, so you’re in good hands.

Q. Does your hosting service support the commercial (paid) edition of LiveCode Server?

Yes, it does. Simply provide proof of purchase, such as a receipt from LiveCode Ltd. We can then switch your hosting account over to a commercial edition of LiveCode Server, which we also keep up-to-date on your behalf.

We typically make the latest version of LiveCode Server available on our servers within a couple of days of its release, once it passes our suite of stability tests to help ensure it doesn't have any obvious bugs that might affect your sites.

The most important differences between the commercial (paid) and community (free) editions of LiveCode Server are that you’re able to use encrypted (password protected) stacks with the commercial edition, and that the commercial edition is kept up-to-date. These help improve the security of your web app deployments.

Q. Do you support LiveCode Server 9.x, 8.x, 7.x, and 6.x?

Yes, our servers currently support LiveCode Server 9.x, 8.x, 7.x, and 6.x.

By default, version 9.6.3 of LiveCode Community Server (the free edition) is pre-installed and usable by all hosting clients.

At this time, LiveCode Ltd has discontinued further releases of LiveCode Community Server, so this is expected to remain at 9.6.3 for the foreseeable future.

If you have purchased LiveCode Server (the paid edition) from LiveCode Ltd, you can choose to have your hosting account switched over to that by sending us a copy of the relevant invoice from LiveCode Ltd.

The paid version of LiveCode Server continues to be actively maintained by LiveCode Ltd, so we shall continue to keep it up-to-date for you, while ensuring each new version passes our suite of stability tests.

At this time, our servers default to running LiveCode Server 9.x for .lc files.

If desired, you may change the default major version of LiveCode for a specific folder and its sub-folders using an .htaccess file. Contact us via the Client Lounge for more information.

In addition, you may utilize a specific major version of LiveCode Server via the use of the following file extensions in your HostM acccount: .lc9, .lc8, .lc7, and.lc6.

Q. Do you support both the “angled brackets” and “hashbang” methods of running LiveCode scripts?

Yes, we support both methods of running LiveCode scripts on our servers. The latter method can be useful in helping to determine the script LiveCode is running when troubleshooting a LiveCode Server process.

Q. Does LiveCode Server work with MariaDB?

Yes! Since MariaDB is compatible with MySQL, the existing LiveCode MySQL drivers already work with MariaDB. In addition, if you are migrating any MySQL databases over, they should work seamlessly with MariaDB.

Q. Can I get my LiveCode desktop or mobile app to communicate with a MariaDB/MySQL database in my HostM account?
