| An FTP account creates a folder on the public_html level of your site that allows external users that know the
password to upload and download files from that location. Change your password if you think that your account is being used incorrectly.
Note: Please be aware that all users with the correct password will be able to add, edit, and delete files from the directory that you specify for the FTP account, and any directories within the stated directory.
To add an FTP account:
1. Click on the "FTP Manager" button at your control panel.
2. Click on the "FTP Accounts" link.
3. Click on the "Add Account link.
4. Enter the name of the FTP account in the "Login" field and the password for the account in the "Password" field.
5. Enter the path to the directory to which this FTP account has access.
Warning: If you enter a single / in the directory box, the new FTP user will have access to the entire public_html directory and all directories under it.
If you just want the new user to be able to access a subdomain (and any folder below it) just set the directory box to the same value as the subdomains' root name which is listed in parenthesis on the subdomain page.
Please be aware that the new user will have read/write access to the directory you choose, and every directory below it.
For example, if you choose to add the user john, and give the user access to the /home/bfhost/public_html/john directory, the user will be able to add, edit, rename and remove any file in /home/bfhost/public_html/john and any directory inside the john directory (ie /home/bfhost/public_html/john/pictures).
6. Click on the "Create" button. |
